Medical Economics: The Ethics of Health Care Guest

Presenter: Rebecca Lunstroth

Back by popular demand! Rebecca Lunstroth gave a very engaging presentation to TBT in May about genetic testing. She returns to our Zoom room with a topic that is on everyone’s mind. Did you ever wonder why the U.S. doesn’t have a unified health care system, yet has elements of socialized, nationalized and privatized systems? Did you know that Medicare and Medicaid were legislated at the same time but have completely different underlying philosophies? And did you know that in general, Medicare sets all reimbursement rates? After a brief outline of the history of our payment systems, come ready to discuss the good, the bad and the never discussed aspects of the US healthcare system.
