Yom Limmud Weekend – February 17-19, 2017

TBT To Host Nationally Renowned Scholar Rabbi Mel Gottlieb

Temple Beth Torah has been selected as one of five congregations in the Houston area to host a nationally renowned scholar in residence on the Shabbat preceding Yom Limmud, a Jewish day of learning, sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston.

Temple Beth Torah will be hosting Rabbi Mel Gottlieb, Ph.D., president emeritus of the Academy for Jewish Religion, California and the former dean of its rabbinical and chaplaincy programs. Rabbi Gottlieb is co-founder of Claremont Lincoln University in California and his rabbinic ordination is from Yeshiva University. He holds a master’s degree in social work and Jewish philosophy and a Ph.D. in mythology/depth psychology. Rabbi Gottlieb has served as a congregational rabbi, Hillel director and clinical social worker.

TBT events include:

  • Friday, February 17th at 7:15 pm: Shabbat service with Rabbi Gottlieb delivering the sermon. Complimentary childcare provided with RSVP by February 16th. Special Oneg to follow by the TBT Sisterhood.

  • Saturday, February 18th at 10:30 am: Adult ed experience– “Moses and Mussar” with Rabbi Gottlieb followed by a light lunch.

  • Saturday, February 18th at 6:30 pm: Pot-luck Dinner followed by an adult ed program, “Ask the Rabbi” with Rabbi Gottlieb

Yom Limmud, a day of Jewish Learning for all ages, will be held Sunday, February 19th at Congregation Emanu El. Yom Limmud brings together all denominations in one place to learn, shop, smooze, nosh, sing and play. There will be more than 60 sessions with many local rabbis, cantors, educators, and other professionals participating.
