Yom HaShoah
יום השואה
An Evening for Holocaust Remembrance
Please join Temple Beth Torah
Friday, April 17, 7:00 P.M.
for a beautiful and unique Shabbat service remembering the Holocaust.
It is up to us to remind ourselves and the world:
Their struggles and triumphs will be remembered.
Rabbi Dan Gordon and Cantorial Soloist Anita Bonanno
will lead a special worship service honoring those who have passed
and those with the incredible strength to survive history’s most horrible times.
We will hear a special speaker, Holocaust Survivor
Edith Jucker:
Mrs. Jucker was born in Poland shortly before World War II began. When she was a young child,
her family attempted to escape Nazi persecution. Fleeing on a small boat, she and family members
were arrested by Russians and accused of being spies. They were sentenced to the frigid wasteland
of Siberia, without running water, heat and very little food. Incredibly brave journeys through
multiple countries led her to Israel, where she met her husband and eventually made a new life in Houston, Texas.
The Talmud teaches us that when one life is saved, an entire world can also be saved.
It is essential for us to hear first-hand accounts.
Learning about the past helps us prevent future potential horrors.
Edith Jucker’s survival is a marvelous example of perseverance.
In her own words: “Only love can survive hate.”
The evening’s service is sponsored by Hy Penn and Lynn Gordon,
dedicated to the memory of Holocaust survivors
Linda Penn, Morris I. Penn and Riva Kremer.
Refreshments will be provided after the service.
All are welcome to attend.
